Nutrition/Exercise
When it comes to nutrition, everyone is different. While caloric intake and protein are fundamentals in good health, each and every one of us has a different body type and metabolism.
The most important thing to remember is that you can’t have good health without the right combination of food and exercise.
I believe you need to eat to live. Not, live to eat. Having said that, my coach, and fiancée, Anthony De La Garza has me trained to eat every three hours. My daily caloric intake is higher than most women, especially when I’m training. Forty percent of the food I eat has protein in it. Protein protects my muscles, especially after Weight Training. I eat small meals throughout the day, getting in all the nutrients needed to keep me strong.
On a typical day I wake up and walk two miles with Rocko, my American Pitbull.
I do this 5 times a week. I am also the proud parents to Tyson, a Chihuahua, and Tuti, my Yorkshire Terrier baby. No doubt I get even more exercise running around after them.
Sometimes, because of my duties as Regional Manager at the Body Factory, I don’t get in my Weight Training until the evening. I work different muscle groups on an alternating basis.
I get to eat all kinds of foods. Oatmeal and egg whites are regular staples in my food plan at breakfast. When I need some energy, I grab a dab of Peanut Butter, slap it on a rice cake or I grab a small handful of nuts. I also eat chicken, fish and lots of vegetables and some fruits in my daily meals. I also take a multi-mineral vitamin, anti-oxidents twice a day, and drinks a lot of water.
I also work out by running up and down bleachers. And, at least once a week, I get a great cardio workout with Spinning classes. Both of these workouts help strengthen my legs and endurance.
Before you begin any kind of exercise and nutrition program, I would encourage you to get guidance from a Professional Trainer or a Doctor. If you need more information on nutrition, you can contact me at bernadettegalvan@aol.com.
